If you’ve decided it’s time to prepare for selling your home, then congratulations! You have just finished the hardest part. We can get attached to our home because there are memories and history there.
So what’s next?
Glad you asked me! I’m here to provide some friendly guidance. Because selling your home is a big deal but it doesn’t need to overwhelm you.
To help you relax bout it, I’m offering some simple steps that will help you.
First up?
Let’s get your home ready for the market.
Most sellers want their home to show well and bring the highest possible price. But, you don’t want to break the bank to get it ready. Here is some good news — getting your home prepared to sell doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. If you have a little time and a can-do spirit, you’ll be able to accomplish a few upgrades quickly. A word to the wise: Before you start spending, talk with a realtor who knows your area and the market. A smart agent will know all of the current in demand upgrades and minor “spruce up” requirements you need.
Fresh Paint on the walls and trim
Dirty, dingy walls are a real turn off to prospective buyers. Choose neutral pastel colors. These appeal to the widest range of tastes. If time is tight, make the living room and kitchen your first priority. Bedrooms and baths can be done later.
The Yard Is the First Impression
Make certain the yard is clean and inviting. Trim hedges and add new mulch where appropriate. Some colorful flowers always brighten things up.
Clean, declutter, and repeat
A home that is dirty and dusty makes for the worst possible showing. Clean thoroughly and remove clutter before your first potential buyer arrives. Between showings, it just take a minute to touch up and to straighten up.
